Welcome to Akwa Ibom State Judiciary

Akwa Ibom State Judiciary came into existence on Wednesday, September 23, 1987 upon the creation of Akwa Ibom State out of the former Cross River State. At inception, it consisted of Seven Judicial Divisions, Ten Magisterial Districts and Ninety-four District Courts.

There were ten (10) High Court Judges in all with Hon. Justice Mbatidiong Udofia Usoro, (now late) as the Pioneer State Chief Judge. The other Jodges were Hon. Justice J. T. Akpabio (now late) Justice of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Edet R. Nkop (who became the second State Chief Judge), Hon. Justice Effiong D. U. Idiong (now late) ( the third Chief Judge), Hon. Justice  Eno B. Out (now late) (who became the fourth Chief Judge), Hon. Justice  U. J. Udofia (late), Hon. Justice  B. U. Eka (late), Hon. Justice  Joseph B. Essang, Hon. Justice  E. I. Nkereuwem (late), Hon. Justice  Eno Udo (late) and Hon. Justice  O.A. Esin (late). Samuel W. Egbo-Egbo (Now a retired Judge of the Federal High Court) was the Pioneer Chief Registrar.
