AKWA IBOM STATE JUDICIARY CONDUCTS TRAINING ON SMALL CLAIMS COURT

In her continued determination to develop the capacity of Judicial Personnel for effective justice delivery in Akwa Ibom State, the Akwa Ibom State Judiciary in collaboration with the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council has conducted training for Judges, Magistrates and court officials of the Small Claims Court in Akwa Ibom State.

The workshop aims at further impacting the judicial officers with the relevant skills required in exposing them to the rudiments and operations of the Small Claims Court.

It seeks to further provide easy access to an informal, inexpensive and speedy resolution of simple debt recovery disputes in the Magistrates’ Courts.

Speaking while declaring the workshop open the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Justice Ekaete Fabian-Obot informed the organizers and participants that the Small Claims Court is a specialized court designed to handle relatively minor disputes, debts and claims not exceeding Five Million Naira. 

She stated that the court is relatively an innovative addition to the Nigerian Legal system aimed at providing individuals and businesses with a simplified and cost effective means of resolving disputes relating to small monetary claims saying that the introduction of this court has been a significant step forward in ensuring access to justice for all particularly those with limited financial resources.

The Chief Judge lauded the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council for providing support to small courts under the state judiciaries saying it will enable those courts fastrack and resolve simple liquidated debts.
